Message from the Founder Director
Today the entire world seems to be engrossed in an unprecedented exchange of information and technology. Communication is the key word that has opened infinite global opportunities for everyone in the world. In such a ‘happening’ scenario, English poses as the major language of global communication today.
It was thirty four years ago that ELTIS marked this efficacy of English and commenced with English language training for international and Indian students. Today it is a full-fledged organization grooming language competence and confidence in thousands around the world. It also imparts training in foreign languages like German, Japanese, Chinese, French, Spanish, Korean and Indian languages.
ELTIS with its latest course design and state-of-the-art infrastructure is all set to impart international quality language training. Latest teaching methodologies, computerized language lab, practical training, audio-visual aids and above all, a 70 strong faculty base, form a sturdy foundation of quality education. Our highly qualified, young and enthusiastic faculty is our best resource.
ELTIS, the proud constituent of Symbiosis International University, surely plays a constructive role in attaining its mission of bridging the world through effective communication. Top |

Message from Principal Director, Symbiosis
ELTIS, or English Language Teaching Institute of Symbiosis, is the oldest of the Symbiosis institutions. ELTIS was the first organized effort in the country to meet the language needs of overseas students. The Symbiosis Institute of Foreign and Indian Languages joined ELTIS in the year 2000. Together, the institutes are serving the cause of facilitating global communication through the study of various languages.
ELTIS has its own elegant and well equipped campus, including facilities like an auditorium, language lab, a 24 hrs ATM facility, a Net café etc., making it a comfortable environment for students and staff alike.
The recent introduction of the International English Language Assessment Test (IELA) by ELTIS in 2007 has proved very successful. ELTIS enjoys the support and confidence of international dignitaries at all times, and it is a pleasure to interact with them on the Annual Day function.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish ELTIS & SIFIL all the best in their future endeavors.

Message from the Vice Chancellor
I am pleased to welcome ELTIS & SIFIL in to the Symbiosis International University family which is now 16 members strong. Their inclusion marks the beginning of the humanities faculty of SIU. This is a step in the direction of making SIU a comprehensive university.
ELTIS & SIFIL has always strived and maintained itself to be one of the finest language Institutes in India which has carved a niche for itself. It gives me immense pleasure that during 2007-08, ELTIS has commenced one year ‘Diploma of Proficiency in English and career skills’, for International students under the ambit of Symbiosis International University. I am confident this new course will be of great help to international students and will bring vast popularity among international students.

Message from the Director
It has always been the endeavour of ELTIS-SIFIL to serve the cause of International harmony. We do it through promoting understanding & communication among the International Students’ Community. The new campus of ELTIS-SIFIL is a miniature world where students and teachers of over 20 different nationalities, speak one language. Man-made or natural boundaries of territory, cast, creed, race , religion and skin colour dissolve at ELTIS-SIFIL into the realization that the inner core of humankind reflects unity in diversity.
It is a matter of pride that during 2007-2008 ELTIS & SIFIL trained more than 425 International Students who belonged to 20 nationalities. It was nice to have on the campus, students coming from Afghanistan, Bahrain, Burundi, Cameroun, China, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Iran, Italy, Japan, Korea, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Tanzania, Thailand, Vietnam & Yemen. We also have faculty members who hail from Greece, Korea, Mauritius, Spain & Ukraine. The number of Indian students crossed 6000 for ELTIS Speakfast courses and the figure was close to 1000 in case of students of foreign languages in SIFIL. SIFIL also started a new course in Functional Hindi for International Students.
ELTIS started Teacher Training Programme with 7-days workshop in ‘Teaching Functional English’ for 17 Junior College Lecturers of Jammu & Kashmir. We are glad we could avail of several opportunities of Corporate Training Assignments. We trained employees of Force Motors, I-Flex Solutions Ltd, Kirloskar Pneumatic, Metropolitan Hotel & Praj Industries. Second & third batches of CII-Symbiosis Finishing School were conducted successfully. .
Symbiosis English for All (SEA) project was merged with ELTIS in Nov. 2007. We are now in the process of integrating the functioning of SEA centres at Nashik and PCMC with ELTIS-SIFIL. The Advisory Board for ELTIS was established and 2 meetings were held on March, 06 and October 08, 2007 respectively, thereby giving valued suggestions to us. Board of Studies were separately established for ELTIS & SIFIL and held their meetings on April 10, 13, May 08 and June 01 to evaluate & improvise the courses of ELTIS-SIFIL. We will soon complete the exercise of re-drafting the study materials of various courses.
In all these and several other initiatives, faculty of ELTIS-SIFIL extended their best cooperation and contribution to me. I also wish to place on record the positive attitude of students. The guidance & encouragement that we have been receiving from seniors of SIU & Symbiosis Society as well as members of Advisory Board & Boards of Studies must also be acknowledged. We still have a long way to go, with a number of opportunities & challenges.

Message from the Dy. Director
The year 2007-08 has really been a happening year for ELTIS-SIFIL. With its entirely new look and infrastructure, ELTIS-SIFIL exhibited an unusual fervour and zest through never-before events at the campus!
The teacher teams have been busy in development of new courses for the well-accepted brand of ELTIS - SPEAKFAST. Their contributions in the form of generation and creation of supplementary activities for the students have also been encouraging of course we expect to start off with these new courses from April 2008. International students’ courses have also been doing well with new teaching methodologies being used for them. They have been through a foray of events like Elocution & Handwriting Competition, Drawing Competition, Cookery Contest, Skits and Songs Performances and more. The first ever Diploma Course for International Students commenced this year, under the purview of SIU.
Events like Family Day received a warm welcome from the entire staff of ELTIS-SIFIL.
MINI FILM festival was another event of its kind organized for the first time at ELTIS. Subtitled films in Hindi, English and Persian were shown to students of ELTIS-SIFIL. The response received will surely make the Mini Film Festival an every year activity henceforth.
WORD POWER – The family newsletter was again another feather in the cap of the ELTIS-SIFIL family. The newsletter an interesting mix of events, happenings, news, future plans, achievements, jokes, puzzles and more, will be published three times in a year.
Apart from in – house activities, ELTIS-SIFIL has spread its wings in the Corporate World and into the field of Teacher Training Programme. The forthcoming plans would strongly focus on doing our best in these areas.
Friends, there is a lot to say and a lot to do, and we promise to give our best like always. With the strong support of full time and visiting faculty, with the efficient working of our staff, with all the love and faith of our students, and with an assuring encouragement from the parent organization, ELTIS-SIFIL will surely prove itself unbeatable!
