International Mother Language day celebration at ELTIS-SIFIL

Mother is the most influential person in everyone's life in this world. It is hence not surprising that the first language which is learned by a child is called the ''Mother Tongue''. A day dedicated to this language is a small contribution, to give it, its well-deserved respect. This day reminds us to pay homage to that one language which is our first stepping stone as multilinguals in this era of globalization.

On Thursday, February 21, 2019, English Language Teaching Institute of Symbiosis (ELTIS) and Symbiosis Institute of Foreign and Indian Languages (SIFIL) celebrated this ''Matrubhasha Din'' with all their students learning English and other foreign languages.

It began with a challenge to the students to speak non-stop in their mother tongue, without using English or any other language word. The Students participated wholeheartedly in this activity with some speaking flawlessly in Marathi, Hindi or Bangla and some totally messing up right at the beginning. The event became even more interesting when foreigners too actively participated and tried to speak in Marathi which they learned on Campus from their friends!

The next activity was an exciting competition between two groups of students. The students were given words in English, for which they had to tell the equivalent word in their mother tongue. Most difficult to translate were a Pen drive and Ice cream!

The event concluded by taking the students' opinion on ''How to preserve a language?'' All the students had an exhilarating time observing this special day dedicated to the Mother Language.
